So, this is quite a controversial topic I realise, and many will only award the number one spot to their own homemade family recipe, but, having embarked on a mission of trying and testing Cornwall’s pasties over a good while, we have collated a special list of our very best finds. Some may not be ones you’d expect but we’re not just going for the big names here; we’re only going for the best. So here are our 9 favourites in no particular order and if you want to find out more about each entry just click on the link:

* we tested a traditional and a veggie option at each place so our recommendations cater for veggies too

  1. Ann’s pasties, Helston and The Lizard
Once you’ve got past the controversial top crimp, you are left with a delicious pasty perfectly seasoned with plenty of filling.

  2. McFaddens, St Just
Typical butchers pasty with more meat than a pasty can handle, lots of gravy so especially good for those who like a juicy pasty.

  3. Philp’s Pasties, Hayle and other outlets check the website
Pastry specialists with the option of flaky by special order, think twice before ordering a large – you best be hungry!

  4. Camelford Londis (Trust us!)
These are actually Barnecutts pasties but cooked on site to the owner’s special method, creating a demand that sees each batch fly out the door. Definitely a case of not judging a book by its cover…

  5. Sarah’s Pasty Shop, Looe
Easily the best in South East Cornwall, Sarah must be a magician to get so much filling in one pasty!

  6. Lavenders Deli, Penzance
As you’d expect from a deli, subtle flavourings give a somewhat unfamiliar but delicious taste that is equally good hot or cold.

  7. Malcom Barnecutts – a trusty choice with multiple outlets
A brand you can trust to get it right, my husband has been eating these his whole life and has never had a bad one. The only complaint he ever has is that the large isn’t that large.

  8. Chough Bakery, Padstow
A bakery maintaining Cornish traditions and doing it so well, these pasties are the ones to get if you’re in Padstow.

  9. Helluva Pasties, HQ is in Callington but they have a couple of other outlets and stockists too so check the website
Aside from being Helluva expensive, they’re helluva nice 😉
