The hair salon disrupting the industry …

I first heard about Yoke The Salon through Instagram and couldn’t wait for such an innovative salon to open in my home town of Plymouth. Yes, I know this business is technically not in Cornwall, but it’s so worth shouting about (and very close to the Cornwall-Devon border too so you won’t have to venture too far!). What first attracted meto the salon was its eco credentials, ethical focus and also the passion that even manages to shine through Yoke’s Instagram account! I happened to tag along to a shoot with Sarah Britain Edwards, the amazing photographer that I’m sure you’ve all heard me raving about, and the shoot was at Yoke. I had a great day learning a bit more about the salon, seeing the beautiful hair and make up creations and the creative behind the scenes shots by Sarah.

I was so excited when Jo, owner of the salon with her husband Steve, invited me in for a bit of a pre wedding trim. Jo is so passionate about the hair industry (with prestigious credentials you won’t find elsewhere in the City) and using only the very best products whilst reducing waste and being as eco as possible. Jo and her husband Steve started the salon on their return from a successful stint working in the hair industry in Australia. The salon’s unique branding and style really stands out, the building at Royal William Yard is absolutely beautiful with a zen vibe and fresh, modern accessories. This salon feels like you’re walking into a top London salon but as soon as you step foot in the door you feel so welcome and so relaxed, free to sit on the sofa and look at the view with a magazine and one of the salon’s delicious coffees if you so please  either side of your treatment.

I sat down and had a chat with Jo and we talked about what I wanted to do with my hair, I was then taken to have my hair washed complimented with a lovely head massage. Once trimmed Jo blow dried and loosely curled my hair and it really did look amazing. It instantly looked in such good condition and smelt and felt amazing. It looked so good I dragged Andy for a meal out as my new do was too good to eat at home!

I definitely recommend this salon to anyone wanting to experience a relaxed innovative salon passionate about sustainability with extremely talented stylists, not only do they care about the environment, they care about your hair and not covering it with nasty chemicals! Jo and Steve have created an environment with an ambitious team who undertake prestigious qualifications to be the best in their game. We need to support businesses like this!

Another thing I love about the salon is that it’s not just limited to being a salon, Jo works with local creatives to hold events, workshops and also being a qualified yoga instructor, even holds regular yoga sessions at the salon. Impressive hey!

Thank you Jo, I’ll be back!

Have you tried to Hair Today in Falmouth? Their shampoos and colour products are paraben free and as natural as possible. Highly recommend.

Hi Michelle, thank you for your recommendation. I haven’t tried it but it sounds really great with the natural focus. It’s so important that we know more about the things we’re putting in our hair if we want to look after it!
