A Heavenly Stay at Fallen Angel …

This truly fabulous hideaway is a must on any bucket list, and I don’t just mean a must see in Cornwall, this is a must wherever you are in the world.

Believe it or not, I’ve actually found this feature surprisingly difficult to write due to the fact no words or photos alone can demonstrate the truly magical feeling of the property. Hold on, on second thoughts I wouldn’t even call it a property; Fallen Angel is an experience.

As you wander through the traditional narrow cobbled streets of Mousehole (about 2.5 miles south of Penzance) to find Fallen Angel, you feel a real sense of Cornwall, but when you enter the property and close the striking Moroccan village gate (no reproductions here!) you become engulfed in the stunning sub tropical gardens as though you’ve left the entire world behind that very unique gate. Jane & Mark, the owners who left their London lives to embark on this venture, worked with the incredible Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens to create this wonderful outdoor space and what they’ve created is truly remarkable.

The building is just so so creative and incorporates eco aspects, which is something I particularly love, and the interior design of this bespoke property is just stunning; very crisp and modern but so homely with a real Moroccan essence which adds to its quirkiness. Each and every piece of furnishing has been individually sourced from all over the world to create this vibrant and incredibly romantic home for two. I found myself utterly fixated on the incredible views from wherever you are in the house (even the shower has an outstanding sea view!).

We managed to pull ourselves away from this heavenly home for just a little while to go and explore the very picturesque village of Mousehole. We took a stroll along the harbour and down to the beach, poking our heads into some of the beautiful shops selling local creations. We then decided to have a bite to eat for a late lunch and were spoilt for choice as Mousehole is a bit of a foodie heaven; I’ve heard great things about 2 Fore Street, The Ship Inn and The Old Coastguard and also about the amazing hot chocolates at Rock Pool right on the beach. However, our eventual (tough!) decision was Hole Foods Deli, it won us over partly because it’s where we shared our third date after watching the Christmas lights a few years ago (very soppy I know!). I’m a fan of healthy, wholesome and as unprocessed as possible foods and Hole Foods Deli offer delicious local produce, fantastic coffee and a very tasty green smoothie too! They also have a great selection of Cornish produce for you to browse and take away with you like local wines and gifts. Jane and Mark (the owners of Fallen Angel) very kindly left us a bottle of River Cottage Elderflower sparkling wine from Polgoon Vineyard and we can highly recommend this light and refreshing tipple.

We cooked dinner at Fallen Angel so that we could fully enjoy this beautiful space and played cards while drinking wine by the fire. Fallen Angel is even more romantic when the sun goes down as the lights dotted around the building reflect and create the illusion of stars. We ran a bath in the iconic Fallen Angel bath tub for two (Jane told us that her and Mark purchased the bath before the plot as they loved it that much!) and then enjoyed sitting out on the balcony watching the world go by in our robes. This really is a retreat where you can truly make time for the two of you, perfect for a special occasion like a honeymoon or just for a romantic, relaxing hideaway.

I’m somebody who is known to pay a lot of attention to detail (some call me a perfectionist but I think they’re exaggerating!) and every tiny detail of Fallen Angel, the property itself and every single finishing touch, have been carefully planned to make each stay just that extra bit perfect. I can truly recommend a stay in this very special place.
