Seasonal, Ethical and Beautiful…

Tide Flowers, founded by Cat Allen, is based in the Old Bakery Studios in Truro, a beautiful building overlooking the river that is undergoing a transformation from a derelict building to the home of many (over 50 studios and workspaces!) fabulous creative businesses.

Cat’s love for her work is contagious and what most fascinates me is that she’s not your traditional florist… I’d say more a florist with a conscience! Tide Flowers select ethically sourced local and British flowers and on the rare occasion there is a need to import, Cat ensures she selects flowers which are ethically sourced from Fairtrade farms. Cat also uses recycled materials such as recycled hessian coffee sacks (love this wrapping!) for her packaging and is currently looking into biodegradable cellophane for those who want more of a traditionally wrapped bouquet.

The flowers offered by Tide Flowers look fantastically rustic and wild, which I love, and would be perfect for anybody who loves to keep things as natural and as eco as possible, they’d also be a great addition to a barn style wedding utilising seasonal flowers!

Tide Flowers also offer fantastic wreaths (not just for Christmas!) and some of which are LIVING! This really excites me, I love love love the idea of having a living wreath as a feature in my home, I never even knew this was possible but will definitely never look back now! Why am I so excited about this you may ask? Well 1. I can keep the wreath up to grow all year round which is a good enough reason in itself I’d say, 2. it’s such a funky alternative to a plant, 3. it’s a living addition to my home, 4. I love the fact that the multiple plants (succulents I believe is the technical term Cat informed me) have been placed together and given a new lease of life! Unfortunately, I don’t have one yet but must get my hands on one!

You even have the opportunity to learn how to make your own wreath, living or non living, if you don’t share quite the same excitement as me, as Cat is running some wreath workshops in time for Christmas.

The Classic Wreath Making Workshop is on Sunday 3rd December at 10:30 or on Tuesday 12th December at 18:30.

The Living Wreath Making Workshop is on Wednesday 6th December at 18:30.

All workshops are based at the Old Bakery Studios and are £35 including nibbles and bubbles, go to Eventbrite for more info or to book.

Tide Flowers can be found at The Market, Crantock, Mawnan Farmers Market, via the website or on Instagram
